Fox's upcoming Assassin's Creed doesn't follow the story of any of the Assassin's Creed games, and its hero, played by Michael Fassbender, is a totally new character for the franchise.

That being said, it's now been confirmed that the movie will feature some characters fans may be familiar with. The movie's armorer, David Wildgoose, told Entertainment Weekly, "There's basically a few assassins taken straight from the games, who we get to see in the films."

Wildgoose led the team responsible for making the movie's weapons and armor. He revealed that some of the items he made will be used by the video game characters who wielded them.

"We actually get to use some of the real game weapons in there," he said.

As you'd expect, Wildgoose didn't say which Assassin's Creed assassins will appear in the movie, but they likely won't be heroes of past games such as Altair and Ezio.

"They're not main characters from the games, but they're very famous characters that the fans will probably enjoy," he said.

One Assassin's Creed game character who will appear in the film is Abstergo CEO Alan Rikkin, who will be played by Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons.

Assassin's Creed also stars Marion Cotillard and Brendan Gleeson, and opens on December 21; that is one week after Star Wars spinoff Rogue One comes out.

Recently, an Ubisoft executive said the company is not expecting to make a lot of money from Assassin's Creed. "It is a lot more a marketing thing. It's also good for the image of the brand," European boss Alain Corre said.

"We have our core fans, but what we would like is to put this franchise in front of a lot more people who, maybe, will then pick up future Assassin's Creed games," he added.

Breaking from tradition, Ubisoft will not release a new mainline Assassin's Creed game this year. This is good for the movie, Ubisoft said previously, because it gives the film's marketing team more time and opportunity to focus on hyping it.

The next game in the Assassin's Creed series, which is rumored to launch in 2017, is believed to be set in Egypt.
