The release of the newest iOS update, iOS 10, did not go exactly to plan today. Some users, including an editor at GameSpot sister site CNET, encountered issues when trying to download the update.

Attempts to download the update yielded an error message for some, explaining they needed to plug their phone into iTunes on a computer to fix the problem. However, doing this leads to another issue that says, "There is a problem with the iPhone that requires it to be updated or restored." The problem could be fixed by updating the phone, but there is a chance you'd have to do a factory reset.

Anybody else have their iPhone 6S killed by iOS 10? Mine is making me connect to iTunes and says it may have to factory reset my phone

The good news here is that Apple acknowledged the problems and said the issue should now be resolved. However, there is no word on what caused the issue or exactly how many people were affected.

"We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability," Apple said in a statement to CNET. "The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers. Anyone who was affected should connect to iTunes to complete the update or contact AppleCare for help."

This is just the latest issue that cropped up with an iOS update. A problem with iOS 8 in 2014 blocked the new HealthKit feature from launching, preventing developers from releasing their software for it.

iOS 10, which Apple says is the "biggest release of iOS ever," includes a number of major new features, including the ability to view two tabs at once in Safari. Also, there are now widgets on the lock screen, while Messages now have a new look. Go to CNET to see a full rundown of what's new with iOS 10.

In other news about the iPhone, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have been announced and will debut on September 16. The new phones are water-resistant and feature better cameras. Apple has also done away with the headphone jack, instead opting for new wireless headphones, though every phone also comes with an adapter for Lightning to 3.5mm.
