[UPDATE] Regarding the Xbox One product page's mention of in-app purchases, Bethesda's Pete Hines tells GameSpot it "shouldn't be there" and was likely a mistake. The game already comes with all Skyrim DLC, "so there are no in-game purchases," he said. About the 100 MB file size, Hines said this might be "just a temporary file."

    The original story is below.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's remastered version, called the Special Edition, is now available to preorder on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb made the announcement today on his blog about the Xbox One version, while the PS4 page went up with less fanfare.

Hryb's post also mentions that "you may pre-download this game," but it appears you're not pre-loading the full thing, as the file size is listed as 106.15 MB. GameSpot has followed up with Microsoft and Bethesda in an attempt to get more information about pre-loading for the Special Edition.

Whatever the case, the Skyrim remaster will not be playable until 12:01 AM ET on October 28.

It also appears a change has been made to Xbox.com product pages, as clicking on the Xbox.com listing for the Skyrim remaster brings you to a page for the game at Microsoft.com. This page mentions that there are in-app purchases available for the game, but that seems somewhat odd, given that the Skyrim remaster contains all previously released DLC.

We have followed up with Bethesda about this as well.

The Skyrim Special Edition is not yet available to preorder digitally for PC. PC players can get the game for free if they own Skyrim and all of its DLC already.

Bethesda announced the Skyrim remaster during its E3 2016 briefing. It sports a number of new visual effects, including god-rays, new snow shaders, and more. Check out the video above to see a graphics comparison that shows off how much better the Special Edition looks.

The Skyrim remaster also includes support for PC mods, just like Fallout 4.

For more, check out GameSpot's interview with Bethesda's Pete Hines about why the developer is remastering Skyrim and not Oblivion.
