In an expected move, Netflix announced today that it has renewed Stranger Things for a second season.

It made the announcement in a video that lists off what appear to be episode titles. Some of them contain possible references to the events of Season 1, so be aware of that. Season 2 debuts in 2017.

The video lists off the following titles:

    • MadMax
    • The Boy Who Came Back to Life
    • The Pumpkin Patch
    • The Palace
    • The Storm
    • The Pollywog
    • The Secret Cabin
    • The Brain
    • The Lost Brother

It's also mentioned in the video that Stranger Things Season 2 takes place in the fall of 1984, which is around a year after the events of Season 1.

The first season of Stranger Things had eight episodes, so Season 2, with its nine chapters, is one episode longer. Creators/writers Matt and Ross Duffer are returning of course, alongside producers Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Matt and Ross Duffer.

The Stranger Things renewal is good news for fans, as Season 1 ended on a number of cliffhangers. Though the Season 2 announcement only came today, Matt and Ross Duffer have been talking openly for a while now about their plans for a "darker and weirder" second season.

As confirmed previously, Season 2 will have a self-contained story, just like the first season. While the season may end with some unanswered questions (the first season certainly did), the idea is to create a "new tension" and have the characters resolve it by the end, Ross and Duffer said.

Netflix doesn't release viewership figures, but a third-party report said the '80s-set Stranger Things had 14.07 million viewers aged 18-49 in its first 35 days. The only Netflix programs that paced ahead that were Fuller House Season 1 and Season 4 of Orange is the New Black.

In other news about Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer talked about the show's video game influences, while Funko has revealed a mock-up Eleven Pop Vinyl figure and it is perfect.
