3D effects in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors Legends will only work on the New Nintendo 3DS, according to an interview with the game's producer.

Hayashi Yosuke spoke to Japanese site 4Gamer about the title as part of its Tokyo Game Show coverage.
Hayashi said that the game's stereoscopic 3D had to be limited on the older 3DS hardware. This was done in order to accommodate the level of action and number of enemies on-screen.

With the introduction of the New 3DS, which has more processing power than its predecessor as well as an additional control stick and built-in near field communication, has come other titles with features unique to the system. Most notable is the portable version of Xenoblade Chronicles. Nintendo remade the Wii game for the 3DS, but it is only playable on newer versions of the system.

More news from the interview includes a confirmation of amiibo support for the game. While Hayashi didn't go into details, he did share that Hyrule Warriors Legends will be able to interact with the character-based peripherals.

Hyrule Warriors Legends is a port of last year's Wii U release, Hyrule Warriors, which also featured amiibo support. A collaboration with Koei Tecmo, the games are Nintendo's application of Samurai Warriors-style gameplay to the familiar world and classic characters of The Legend of Zelda series.
The 3DS game will launch sometime in early 2016 as Nintendo announced at E3 this year. It will include the original's downloadable content, as well as new Wind Waker-themed stages.

For those eager to play the game in 3D, only the XL size is currently available in in the States. However, the smaller version, which supports swappable faceplates, will launch later this month, alongside the new Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.
A special Zelda-themed New 3DS package will also be available with The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes when it arrives in stores Oct. 23. It will include a gold XL system and a copy of the game.
